Renewable energy - new activity of ENAP

EKO/Solar solutions

ENAP company is present in the energy market since 2001. In addition to its continued activity, during these years, ENAP had taken first steps towards implementing the idea of producing electricity from renewable sources. One of the flagship methods of electricity generation is based on solar energy, or photovoltaic energy.

What is photovoltaic? Photovoltaics is a term composed of two words, "photos" from the Greek light, and the "Voltaic" indicating an electric voltage. Possibilities of solar energy were already known by our ancient ancestors. The Romans experienced the power of solar energy during the acquisition of Syracuse when certain "mad" man called Archimedes, used mirrors to focus solar radius of such great power that he was able to burn the hulls of the Roman fleet by guiding the beam to the ships, and after few moments turn it to ashes.

Knowledge about the PV however does not reach so ancient antiquity. The origins of PV knowledge came from the nineteenth century when a French scientist Becquerel discovered the photovoltaic effect (the effect of propelling the electrons under the influence of light rays from the sun). This effect occurs in the elements or compounds or with specific properties. The first photovoltaic cell was created in 1883, from a semiconductor selenium coated with a thin layer of gold. As usual with new inventions, the efficiency of the first photovoltaic cell was only 1%, but it was certainly the first step in the development of photovoltaic technology. Development of semiconductor technology, photovoltaic cells were improved with time. Nowadays, the efficiency of solar cells is up to 20% thanks to development of semiconductors and silicon, which is main component for 90% of photovoltaic cells in the world.

In the face of global warming due to pollution of the atmosphere by greenhouse gases emitted from combustion of fossil fuels such as coal, oil or gas to produce electricity, the mighty of this world decided to turn to clean sources of energy that have been around for hundreds of years, such as solar or wind energy.

Poland is also committed to implementing these technologies because of the signed international treaties and its membership in the European Union, which is associated with the requirements of the gradual but urgent implementation of the electricity production from renewable sources. Such requirements are subject mainly to local authorities and municipalities.

In the field of energy from renewable sources, ENAP company offers photovoltaic as well as wind energy systems. Wind energy is used to drive wind turbines with different powers. The wind turbine electric generator is driven by a propeller spinned by the wind.

Although private investors are not obliged to implement any provisions of these technologies. They are primarily motivated by the benefits that can be achieved by using this equipment such as saling of energy production, savings from less usage of network power, or by becoming independent from the power supply.

The wind was used as a driving force also in antiquity, initially to move ships with canvases, later people invented propeller-powered windmills. Today, solutions from the past are used in the production of clean energy that is electricity produced by wind-driven generator.

The wind turbine is a perfect addition to solar cells, because both systems are dependent on the main elements present on the planet, from the sun and wind, the sun shines when it is windy, and vice versa, or the wind is blowing and the sun is shining. Systems that use photovoltaic cells in combination with wind turbine are called hybrid systems.

The ENAP company is the exclusive representative and distributor in Poland, for the Spanish companies BELSTONE, a manufacturer of photovoltaic panels and wind turbines under the brand SOLAR INNOVA.
